Texas might be second to a big iceberg with a million polar bears and about three people in terms of size, but how awesome we are makes up for it. Every Texan knows our state is the best, and most people from out of state know it too. If you don’t, you will after you read this article.
1) Wait, so horses run on oil?
Occasionally we like to give our horses a rest and drive cars to work instead. Luckily, Southeast Texas is home to the largest oil gusher in the history of the world, Spindletop. If you like cheap gas prices, then this is the state for you!
2) A diverse landscape
From the majestic desert of the Big Bend to the lush pine trees of the Big Thicket, Texas has it all. You never even need to travel outside of the Lone Star State to get a glimpse of every terrain and climate imaginable. Who’s up for a road trip?
3) Texas - the best country in America
Our pride here in Texas might just be bigger than the state itself. Don’t bother asking someone if they’re from Texas because it’ll probably be the first thing out of their mouth.
4) We don't speak English, we speak Texas
What state has its own language that can be recognized all over the country? That’s right, Texas. Say “y’all” in Washington, D.C. and everyone within earshot will gather around and ask if you ride your horse to work. Northerners, does “you guys” attract the same amount of attention? Didn’t think so.
5) Blue Bell
We’re home to such good ice cream that kids throw tantrums in the grocery store when the company gets recalled. Sure, you can find it in other states too, but it only tastes good in Texas.
6) Friday Night Lights - literally
No, I’m not talking about the movie. If you want to see so much spirit and enthusiasm that would make you think you’re at the Super Bowl every weekend, come experience the religion that is high school football in Texas.
7) Unsweet isn't in our vocabulary
In Texas, we have several varieties of tea: sweet, very sweet, and teeth-rotting after the first sip. Drink up!
8) No state income tax
That’s right, we don’t have to pay a state income tax here in Texas! Is there anything better than that? Besides Texas in general, of course.
9) BBQ. The end
No matter where you are in Texas, you need not venture far to find the mouthwatering sight of thick, juicy cuts of meat sizzling on a grill. We have the best BBQ in the nation, and if you think otherwise..oh well, more for us!
10) Houston, we have a problem!
The first man on the moon called Texas, not your state, for help. Now even aliens know that Texas is the best!
11) Tex-Mex (AKA chips and queso)
Who needs authentic Mexican food when you can have an entire meal drowning in liquefied cheese?
12) You can't beat Texas music (no pun intended)
From Willie Nelson to Beyoncé, Texas is just bursting with all kinds of musical talent that everyone can appreciate.
13) Bucee's - the highlight of any road trip
Ah, nothing like the telltale chipper rodent signaling that you’re almost out of the boondocks and nearing a habitable restroom. And you can’t forget about those beaver nuggets!
13) A better question would be, what CAN'T you fry?
In Texas, answering that would prove difficult. You name it, you can find it fried and on a stick here. You can’t blame us, food just tastes better covered in greasy dough.
15) Southern hospitality
One of the best things about Texas has to be the warm hearts and welcoming personalities of its residents. No door goes unopened for a stranger behind you and no sentence ends without a courteous “Ma’am” or “Sir.” One thing’s for sure, Texans will never let you forget that they’re glad you could join them in the greatest state of them all.
For these reasons and more, we just have the right to be patriotic here in Texas. Why are you proud to live in our state? Let me know in the comments below!
