Who said lighthouses aren’t for the landlocked states? Tennessee has three registered lighthouses of sorts, although they aren’t the typical Thomas Kinkade scenes that we’re used to seeing in popular culture. With one lighthouse dotting each main area of the state, there’s one not too far from you – you simply have to look.
We’ve put together a quick road trip for you, but keep in mind – these spots don’t have concrete addresses, so you’ll end up doing a bit of backroads Tennessee exploring. But we can’t complain about that, right? Here’s your map!

Originally built by Jerry Milam on the Tennessee River, the lighthouse is tucked a bit back on the limestone cliff but is said to have been used for navigational purposes. The round, 70-foot structure gives off a continuous white light.

Colloquially known as the Cumberland River Lighthouse, this is actually the Omohundro Waterworks Intake Crib. Built in 1889 and originally painted white, it has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986.

Located on Douglas Lake, this fun lighthouse is supposedly used for navigational purposes on the waterways and is operated by the Lighthouse Pointe Marina.
Although the tower is closed, the fake Carthage Lighthouse sure is photogenic!
