There’s a stunning canyon hike here in Southern California that you must see to believe. The one and only Pacific Palisades is home to a majestic trail with lush shaded paths that lead to an eye-popping view that will take your breath away. If you’re looking for a new favorite spot to explore in SoCal, I have a feeling this might go straight to the top of your list.
Topanga State Park
Located in Topanga State Park, Los Leones Canyon is where we're headed today. You can tell from this beautiful gated entrance that this is going to be one epic experience!
Before you start your hike you'll need to pick a trail. So many decisions!
There are lots of trails to choose from once you arrive at Leones Canyon. The Parker Mesa Overlook is my personal favorite; it can be completed in approximately 3 hours round trip. However, all of the trails are equally beautiful, so make sure to try and explore all of them at some point.
And off we go.
Get ready to be dazzled by lush canyon paths that create a magical overhead canopy. On a hot day it's perfect for blocking out the blazing sun.
For the best hiking experience, get out on the trail early to avoid the crowds. How early? If you arrive close to 7 am that will give you time to enjoy the trail before the rest of the world shows up.
This is where we're headed...
Can you believe that sky? It looks like it will take forever to get to the top, but just put one foot in front of the other and you'll be there before you know it.
It's hard to believe this is Southern California. The setting feels remote and secluded -- the best way to hike.
The incline is quite steep. At this point you may be panting, so make sure to drink that water. And if you haven't done so already, slather on some sunscreen.
You're almost there, I promise.
Right over this hill marks the finish line. There is a trail that keep going even further, but we're going to end our hike at Parker Mesa Overlook...you'll see why.
And you made it!
Welcome to Parker Mesa Overlook. The view from up here goes on for eternity. This is the perfect spot to end the hike. I told you it was worth it!
Go ahead and do a happy dance - you deserve it. It's one tough hike, but the payoff is beyond rewarding.
