Tired of hiking the same old trails in Southern California? Well, today you’re in for a real treat as I have a list of 10 trails for you to add to your hiking bucket list. From a scenic overlook trail that’s less than a mile long, to a 6-mile hike that will take you to the highest summit in the Santa Monica Mountains, there’s a ton of variety for everyone to choose from here in SoCal. Ready to get outside and breathe some fresh air?
1. Cuyamuca Peak in San Diego
Hiking to Cuyamuca Peak in San Diego will take you through 6 glorious miles of nature on a paved trail. The view at the top of this summit, which is the 2nd highest summit in San Diego, will give your senses a thrill.
2. Oak Glen Preserve and Southern California Montane Botanic Garden in Yucaipi
Nestled in the San Bernardino Mountains, this heavenly preserve located on a 106-year old apple ranch has a main trail that will treat you to amazing scenery including lush tree-covered forests, wetlands, streams, ponds, and all sorts of wildlife. Shhh...don't tell the other trails on this list, but I think this one might be my favorite : )
3. Temescal Canyon Gateway Park in Pacific Palisades
A wonderful shady trail that will get you out of the sun and into nature. You'll also be treated to some pretty epic views of the surrounding area including Santa Monica, Los Angeles and Pacific Palisades.
4. Echo Mountain in Altadena in Los Angeles
Take this 5-mile hike to Echo Mountain in Altadena via the Sam Merril Trail and you'll be rewarded with an incredible view of Pasadena once you reach the top. Expect a moderate incline along the entire hike so make sure you have some water handy to hydrate.
5. Coral Canyon State Park in the Santa Monica Mountains
If an ocean view is what you're looking for, this 2.5 mile loop in Coral Canyon Park won't disappoint. Look at that setting!! Wow!
6. Griffith Park Observatory HIke
With over 53-miles of trails to choose from, ranging from easy to difficult, you can literally choose your own adventure. Which trail shall we take today?
7. Peters Canyon Regional Park in Orange County
This is a great spot for hiking enthusiasts of every kind as there are over 10 scenic trails to choose from with varying distance. The longest trail at Peters Canyon is 5.5 miles.
8. Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook in Culver City
You'll be feeling the burn in no time on these killer stairs leading to the scenic overlook. It's the shortest trail on this list at under 1 mile, but the uphill climb on these stairs will definitely burn tons of calories.
9. Sandstone Peak in the Santa Monica Mountains
For a more advanced trail that will take you to the tallest summit in the Santa Monica mountains you'll want to check out the hike to Sandstone Peak. Clocking in at 6 miles, it's the perfect uphill hike that will give you a stellar view and an awesome workout in a single afternoon.
10.Sycamore Canyon Park in Diamond Bar
Tucked away in an unexpected location off the freeway, you might miss this gem if you're not looking for it. The serene surroundings include lush trees, a small waterfall, and a charming wooden foot bridge.
