While South Dakota has so many great qualities, there are a few things that people here should avoid at all costs. From natural disasters to making it through every season – these are things you need to know if you want to survive in the stunning state of SD.
You never know how much we are going to get or when. Try to keep your car parked in a garage whenever possible so you don't end up like this guy.
2. Winter altogether.
It is very, very cold in South Dakota. As anyone who is from here knows, it's not the temperature, it's the wind.
3. Getting stuck behind a tractor in traffic.
All you can do is politely wait until they turn or let you pass. (But we love our farmers so it's worth it!)
4. Pot holes.
Pot holes are the worst in spring because of how much our winters destroy our roads. They can seriously damage your car if they are big enough.
5. Road construction.
Even though you should avoid road construction, I feel like I need to say "Good luck!"... because it is EVERYWHERE.
6. Trying to go vegetarian.
With so many yummy meats in SD, it's a lost cause to even try.
7. Driving on bald tires.
This is the one your dad will agree with most. Driving on bald tires is very, very dangerous. Especially in a state with as much variety in weather as we have.
8. Summer without sunscreen.
After coming out of our winter hibernation, it's important to remember to wear sunscreen, especially on those first few days out at the pool.
9. Not having a tornado plan.
Fingers crossed that a tornado never strikes down close to you, but if one does, you don't want to be caught ill-prepared.
10. Believing South Dakota is a fly over state.
We all know how great South Dakota is, but it never hurts to be reminded. Share this article and remind your friends how even the things to avoid in SD aren't all that bad.
