A tiny little museum for Douglas County is right next to the courthouse.

This little place showcases some of the history of the county and the families that have lived there. Out front, you can see a Keystone on the left of the walkway and a bell on the right, as well as an old grinding wheel. The town is well past 100 years old by now, so the history is pretty extensive!

A Railroad House can also be found and toured in Armour, was built in 1886, and includes an equally as fascinating history.
The adorable, retro Lorain Theater in the downtown area is a popular stop for locals.

They still show movies every week at Lorain, including current and newly released films. It's the perfect opportunity to go back to the good old days in a theater that hasn't changed much since then.
This town may only be about a mile long, as stated by this building sign, but its history is strong and the residents are proud of their town.

"Pride runs deep" is the motto of Armour, and it really shows here. A great town doesn't have to be a big one, but one where the community loves and respects it. Armour fits that bill perfectly.

What are some fun things to do in South Dakota?

Everyone knows South Dakota as the home of Mount Rushmore, but there are plenty of other fun sights to see and places to explore. Here are some fun things to do in South Dakota that you might not have heard as much about:

  • World’s Largest Pheasant, Huron, SD: South Dakota may have the largest set of faces carved out of a mountain in the world, but they also have a pretty big pheasant too. This big bird towers over Huron, SD at 28 feet tall and a hefty 22 tons.
  • The Mammoth Site, Hot Springs, SD: Hot Springs is a pretty "big" tourist attraction, but the Mammoth Site is even bigger. This active archaeological dig site contains the largest concentration of mammoth remains. It is a fascinating site to learn about these ancient creatures.
  • Dinosaur Park, Rapid City, SD: As long as we are stepping back in time, we may as well peek at some dinosaurs too. The Dinosaur Park has been bringing people to South Dakota since 1936. These stately statues overlook the Badlands much like they would have millions of years ago. This time you can get up close and personal with them without getting stomped on.
  • Stratobowl, Rapid City, SD: Each year Rapid City has an epic hot air balloon festival in the remarkable Stratabowl canyon in the Black Hills National Forest. You can come to watch these rainbow-colored balloons rise high in the sky, or you can purchase tickets to jump in and fly yourself. Either way, it is an epic experience.
