Shenandoah Caverns

Shenandoah Caverns is home to a giant version of America’s favorite breakfast food, bacon. While this bacon isn’t edible, as it is formed from dripping minerals, it’s still a super unique site to witness. The caverns have an elevator service that allows visitors of all ages to marvel at the otherworldly underground formations like the diamond cascade, rainbow lake, or above mentioned bacon formations.

While Shenandoah Caverns made our ‘weirdest places’ list, I think I’d call it more cool than weird. It’s been around for over 90 years and for good reason. It’s not just the underground attractions but a walk-through the above ground inside that features 35-foot high treehouse home to 5-foot squirrels, 27 full-size float parades from The Rose Parade, Inaugural Parades and more, and a Main Street of Yesteryear that features department store window displays from the 1940s and 50s.

If you’re in Virginia or just passing through, Shenandoah Caverns is a must-visit attraction.
