The Oregon Coast Aquarium was voted as one of the top 10 aquariums in the nation by the Travel Channel, and it’s easy to see why: this private, not-for-profit aquarium is decorated as an aquatic and marine science institution accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, which holds high standards for excellent animal care. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is dedicated to education about marine wildlife and ocean preservation, and their exhibits are truly unique, featuring creatures from all different marine zones. One, however, cannot be missed: The Passages of the Deep exhibit lead visitors through a series of glass tunnels under the largest open-ocean exhibits, so you can experience the view from beneath the waves without even getting wet! It is not every day that you get to watch a shark or bat ray casually swim overhead! This aquarium is dedicated to marine preservation both underwater and above, so visitors are treated to a beautiful seabird aviary as well. Special exhibits change frequently, so every visit here will be unique. Education programs of all kinds are offered to groups and visitors, including a chance to “sleep with the sharks” and, if you are certified, even dive into the tanks with the pros for the most up-close-and-personal experience possible!
