Lee Maxwell has quite a collection of washing machines. In fact, he has over 1,400 of them!! Why, you might ask? Why not! The oldest one in his collection was made in 1840! But Lee doesn’t just collect these odd antiques, he has also collected a wealth of knowledge about the history of the washing machine and can tell you about every one. He even published a book in 2003, titled “Save Women’s Lives: History of Washing Machines,” which is available for purchase on his website. You can also find photos of EVERY washing machine in the museum on his site, and he even offers appraisals for any antique washing machine you may have laying around. His tours are offered by appointment only, but this one is worth the extra effort—its pretty amazing sight, and you will never look at your laundry the same way again.
