What are the holidays in Pittsburgh like?

The holidays in Pittsburgh – and the holidays in Pennsylvania – are a time of peace, happiness, and joy. Life in Pennsylvania is beautiful all year, but in the winter, it becomes especially wonderful despite the chill (more about that in a moment). It seems like everywhere you turn, you’ll find amazing holiday activities in Pittsburgh, including fun holiday traditions in Pittsburgh you won’t find anywhere else (we like to watch the ball go up on New Years instead of down).

What is winter in Pennsylvania like?

Winter in Pennsylvania is chilly, to say the least. The daily high temperatures hover somewhere around the mid-40s, and it’s very rare that they’re ever higher than the mid-60s. Typically, the lowest daytime high occurs in January and tends to be around 40 degrees. It’s almost always cloudy, or partly cloudy, and oftentimes things will be coated in a thin layer of ice in the mornings. It snows here (which leads to some of the best snow tubing in Pennsylvania!), and sometimes, severe winter weather like blizzards do occur. In fact, there have been some truly remarkable winter storms in Pennsylvania, many of which made history.

What are some fun things to do during the holidays in Pittsburgh?

The holidays in Pittsburgh are a special time. There are all sorts of fun things to do in the winter in PA, and life in the Pitts is no different. There are all sorts of opportunities for fun stuff like ice skating at PPG Place’s rink, and Kennywood is a family tradition you’ll never find (or do) anywhere else. We eat some delicious holiday food like Pizzelles and we stop everything we’re doing to watch the Eat N’ Park commercial when it comes on. Of course, we can also do amazing outdoor things like some awesome winter hikes in Pittsburgh (and winter hikes near Pittsburgh). The possibilities are only as limited as your imagination, so bundle up and enjoy the season in all its splendor.
