What are the bare bones necessities for survival in any given place? It goes without saying that you need food, water, shelter, and preferably friends and family. But, in any given state, specific other needs may vary. Here are some things that you undoubtedly need to make it in the state of Pennsylvania.
1. A fence for your garden
If you don't protect your tomatoes and carrots, deer and rabbits will invade your garden and eat it all up. While these critters may be cute, they are also vicious. (If you're a plant.)
Look, I love our state as much as the next guy, but you can't deny that sometimes things around here can get a little dull. That's why you'd do well to have something on hand to entertain yourself. Netflix is a good pick.
3. A car
I've managed to survive in Pennsylvania for 23 years without owning a car, thanks to the glory and wonder that is good friends. However, it is a place where things tend to be far apart. Walking isn't going to get you everywhere, and depending on where you live, might not even get you to the store for some milk.
4. Or, a horse.
This is a more epic and personable alternative to a car.
5. Camping gear
We are an outdoorsy kind of state, thanks to our many miles of beautiful land. Be sure to be prepared for some camping adventures.
6. Clothing for every climate imaginable
The weather can change without warning and unpredictably. Even if you're here in the middle of summer, it would be smart to have some warm clothing, just in case.
7. Lots of garlic to ward off vampires
A mirror and some wooden stakes might be good too. Oh, wait. I confused Pennsylvania with Transylvania. My bad.
8. An appetite
The garlic might be useful for cooking, if you're going to get into the spirit of things. We have a ton of amazing local food here in Pennsylvania, that you won't be able to get enough of.
9. A snowshovel
From the months of December to March, your main hobby will be shoveling and your shoulders will become more buff than you ever thought imaginable, thanks to all of the snowfall we receive.
10. A sense of adventure
Last but not least, be sure to bring your sense of adventure. Or else you won't have any fun exploring Pennsylvania and all it has to offer.
