Summer means all of our favorite leisure activities: swimming, lounging outside, sticking our faces in the air conditioner’s cool breeze, eating ice cream, sleeping in, and of course fishing. Here are some of the absolute best destinations in the state of Pennsylvania to kick back and reel in some big catches.
1. Conneaut Lake
The largest natural lake in Pennsylvania is great for fishing.
2. The Lehigh River
The 109-foot long Lehigh River has a huge variety of fish, including rainbow bass, muskie, smallmouth and largemouth bass, pickerel, panfish, catfish, carp, and more!
3. Lake Wilhelm in Maurice K. Goddard State Park
Lake Wilhelm is a warm-water fishing area with a giant variety of freshwater species.
4. Blue Marsh Lake
Blue Marsh Lake is a manmade lake that was completed in 1979. It is a popular destination for boating, swimming, and of course, fishing.
5. Keystone State Park
The manmade Keystone Lake is stocked with trout at the beginning of each April, but also has a variety of other warm and cold water fish, including muskie, carp, northern pike, bass, and more. The lake also offers ice fishing when conditions permit.
6. Lake Erie
The largest body of water in Pennsylvania is undoubtedly one of the best places to go fishing in the state. It is one of the few places in the area where you can book a charter fishing trip on a boat.
7. Lake Wallenpaupack
Striped bass and hybrid striped bass are stocked in Lake Wallenpaupack, which already holds native species of many other fish including bluegill, walleye, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, catfish, and more.
8. Foster Joseph Sayers Dam
This is an ideal destination for channel catfish and is located within Bald Eagle State Park.
9. Lake Arthur
In Morain State Park is Lake Arthur, a warm water fishery. During the winter, it is open for ice fishing.
10. Pymatuning Reservoir
The manmade Pymatuning Reservoir is a popular fishing destination that sits between Pennsylvania and Ohio.
