1. Jake's Famous Crawfish
This downtown Portland institution has been serving up seafood since 1892. Crab cakes, oysters, mussels and salmon are specialties here, and happy hour is also a big draw.

This elegant bistro is a market by day and bustling restaurant by night. Local wines are plentiful, and the seasonal menu is fresh and ever-changing.

The open-air kitchen at Roe sets it apart, and the changing prix fixe menu gives you a four-course meal with options in each course. Because the restaurant is small, reservations are required for seating.

Oysters are a big draw here, but their chowders are also quite notable. Opening in 1907, the seafood icon is one of the oldest family-run businesses in town.
