Beaches in Ohio are probably easier to come by than you think.
Last year, we highlighted some of our favorite beaches in Ohio. (You can find that article
here.) This summer, we wanted to focus more on lesser-known beaches – the ones tucked away in family resorts, behind amusement parks and on the shores of peaceful lakes. Here are 11 little-known beaches in Ohio that will make your summer unforgettable:
1. Cedar Point Beach
You'd be surprised how many people don't know about Cedar Point Beach in Sandusky. After a day (or two) of roller coaster mania, relax on the shores of Lake Erie at this beautiful beach.
2. Long's Retreat Resort
This southern Ohio family resort in Latham has transformed its swimming hole into a mini water park, complete with a splash pad, diving board and three water slides. Camp here and make a weekend out of it.
3. Dow Lake
Strouds Run State Park in Athens County features multiple hiking trails, cabin getaways and peaceful swimming and boating on Dow Lake.
4. Salt Fork Lake Beach
One of Ohio's most beloved state parks is home to one of the state's most peaceful lakes in Guernsey County. The designated swimming area here is perfect for a day of family fun.
5. Buck Creek State Park
This popular camping destination in Springfield features a 2,400-foot sand beach. It's a serene place to soak up the sun on a hot summer day.
6. Mineral Springs Lake Resort
Tucked away in Adams County, you’ll find the hidden gem of Mineral Springs Lake, a picturesque lake fed by natural spring water that’s loaded with nature’s healthy minerals.
7. Lake Logan
Lake Logan State Park features one of the Hocking Hills area's favorite swimming spots. For a relaxing day in the sun, check out this peaceful lake.
8. Rocky Fork Lake
Lakeside camping, paddle boat rentals, fishing and swimming are popular activities at Rocky Fork State Park in Hillsboro. If you can't stay for the weekend, spend a day on the lake's beach.
9. Baylor Beach Park
This 2-acre water park lake in Navarre features tons of family fun. Make a mini summer vacation out of it and camp here as well.
10. Lake Hope
Within the 26,824-acre Zaleski State Forest in McArthur, you'll find the quiet, peaceful Lake Hope State Park and its little-known beach.
11. Indian Lake State Park
Indian Lake State Park in Lakeview features two public beaches: Old Field Beach and Fox Island Beach. Boating and water skiing are other popular activities here.
