As we head into spring and summer, day trip season has arrived and you may be looking for a nearby town to visit and explore. We are perfectly situated to reach several interesting areas that are all within about an hour, and one of the most charming is Augusta, Kentucky. Follow the Ohio River southeast and you’ll find yourself in a town that is filled with history, activity, entertainment, great food, and if you happen to be lucky… George Clooney. A visit to this enticing river town near Cincinnati is a must-visit, and you may even need more than a day to explore all that this picturesque city has to offer.
The historic town of Augusta dates all the way back to 1797, when the Kentucky Legislature issued the town its charter.
Early settlers discovered countless skeletons as the ground was excavated and it has since been confirmed that Augusta was built on an ancient Indian burial mound. It's believed that as many as 10,000 human remains are still buried beneath this beautiful town. This is just one interesting piece of the puzzle of Augusta and its fascinating past.

The town is filled with historic homes, businesses, and other buildings that date back to the early 1800s.
Neighborhoods are pure Americana, with big front porches and manicured lawns. A walk along the riverfront to enjoy these homes is a must when you visit Augusta.

Another must is a visit to Main Street and the businesses that occupy this adorable stretch of road.
The Clooney family has strong ties to Augusta, so you'll see nods to them in many places around town. Other notable buildings are the 1811 Jail, Baker-Bird Winery, and the nearby Walcott Covered Bridge.
One experience you absolutely must have when you visit Augusta is a ride on the Jenny Ann.
Riverboats visit from time to time, but even if they're not there, take time to walk along the river and sit and enjoy the views.
