Here in Ohio there are several destinations that require more than a day’s trip to get the full experience. From city skylines and shopping in The Three C’s to breathtakingly beautiful nature getaways, Ohio truly has it all. The following are must-do activities (aside from shopping) or necessary stops to make in what we consider to be the best road trip destinations our state has to offer.
1) Put In Bay
Take a few days to explore Ohio's very own island life.
Enjoy the beaches and waters of Lake Erie.
Be sure to visit Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial.
...and tour the island by train or golf cart to ensure you see it all.
Ride every roller coaster you possibly can as many times as you possibly can at Cedar Point (AKA, the Roller Coaster Capital of the World.)
Then take a day dedicated to fun in the sun at Cedar Point's neighboring Soak City.
...and end the trip with a serene picnic along the shores of Lake Erie and a tour of Marblehead Lighthouse and the lighthouse's museum.
Shop and dine in the state's capital.
Walk the streets of The Short North Art's District, where murals, street art and art galleries abound.
Visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and spend a day with the animals.
Experience authentic German cuisine, explore a 32-room bookstore and walk the cobblestone streets of German Village.
4) Hocking Hills State Park
Arguably one of Ohio's most beloved nature getaways where you can...
...stay in a charming cabin...
...explore Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls and multiple other beautiful landmarks along the hiking trails...
...and even zip line.
After you've shopped, dined and spent the night in the city, spend a day at Kings Island, which is one of Ohio's beloved amusement parks (and it's just a short drive from the city.)
Then spend a day (or night) at Great Wolf Lodge, a popular indoor waterpark.
End the trip with a short drive to Loveland, where you can find the Loveland Castle to explore inside and out for a small fee.
6) Ohio's Amish Country
Enjoy the simple things in life at Ohio's Amish Country.
Visit the historic Roscoe Village.
Taste (and take home) fresh, homemade Amish food.
...and shop for authentic, hand crafted Amish gifts.
Shop, dine and stay in the city.
Spend a day with the animals at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
Learn all about how rock and roll started at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
...and end the trip with a visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art where viewing fine art is FREE of charge.
Pack up the car and grab your family and friends this summer for an unforgettable road trip—without even leaving the state.
