The Northern California coastline draws visitors from all over the world for its stunning beauty, rugged landscape, and crashing waves. The drive between San Francisco and Monterey is about 120 miles long, and it’s the best way to enjoy Northern California’s stunning coast. Cruise down the famous Highway-1 as you explore the most gorgeous stretch of NorCal coast.
Pacifica
Just south of San Francisco sits Pacifica. It's known for its beautiful beaches and chilly weather, so it may not be the best place for sunbathing! But it sure is a great place to take photos, go for beach strolls, and just admire all that Mother Nature has to offer.
Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay can draw quite a crowd during holidays and long weekends, as many Northern Californians flock to this seaside town's beaches. It's no surprise Ritz Carlton chose to build a hotel on a cliff in Half Moon Bay, overlooking the beautiful ocean below. During the summer, plenty of events, weddings, and parties are hosted on those gorgeous cliffs.
Pescadero
Making your way further south, you'll hit Pescadero, a beachside town known for absolutely beautiful sunsets. There are plenty of spots where you can park your car and simply admire the gorgeous view. Do some exploring on foot, and you just might find secret coves that aren't on TripAdvisor.
Santa Cruz
You're almost at Monterey! But before you reach your destination, be sure to stop by Santa Cruz. Aside from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk that the town is famous for, Santa Cruz offers quaint little restaurants, oceanfront shops, and other charming spots that you'll love exploring.
