There is nothing quite like a breathtaking sunset to remind you that you live in the GREATEST state ever. So, I went to my good friend flickr, and searched for twenty gorgeous setting-sun photos that capture the expansive, and diverse landscape of our gorgeous home state. From the mountains to the beach and in-between, a Carolina sunset cannot be beat!
20. "Sunset at the Edge of the World"
This gorgeous picture by Zach Frailey on Cape Cateret reads more like art than real life.
19. The beginning of the end
The capitol city looks amazing as the day begins to fade away in Raleigh.
18. A foggy sunburst
Almost too beautiful to be real, this 'orange' slice of sunset is perfectly captured by Kim Seng on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
17. "Cattail Sunset, New Bern"
The light blow of wind on a cattail is so perfectly captured in this picture. It feels as if you are right there in the sweet Carolina air.
16. Like a painting
Is this real? I mean, wow, the deep hues of colors flowing over the Blue Ridge Mountains. What an enchanting sight.
15. "Field of Dreams"

Like falling down the rabbit hole, this surreal picture was captured at the Biltmore by Justin Askew.
14. Out west
This warm western sunset was captured in The Great Smoky Mountains at Clingman's Dome
13. Greetings from Charlotte
One commenter said this looks like a post card and I completely agree! Charlotte looks so metropolitan and chic as the sunset illuminates each building.
12. Blazing country sky
The deep purple hues captured by Lauren Carey show the beauty of a country sunset in Carolina.
11. "Southern Lights"
Shot in Kinston on an autumn evening. Breathtaking!
10. On the dock of the bay
A sunset on the Outer Banks really makes you feel as if you're on the edge of the world.
9. Fields of setting sun
Rick Schwartz captured this beautiful picture at the Biltmore Estate as the sun began to drift away from the horizon.
8. Like a movie
This picture makes you do a double take. 'Fiery Sky' is a genius way to 'reflect' the beauty of our state.
7. "Fighting for the Light"
Dark pastels rush above the atlantic ocean for a heavenly sunset.
6. 'Sunset at Sims Pond'
Just outside of Boone, this hidden country paradise makes me want to nestle up on a blanket and enjoy the view!
5. As night approaches
The cool blue clouds colliding with warm, yellow tones accents the peaceful landscape.
4. Miles of illusion
"Sunset over the Canal" was captured by Jimmy Emerson outside of Southport. The last bits of light give an optical illusion to the gorgeous landscape.
3. Darkness rolls in
The deep burgundy hues cast an eerie sheen on the Carolina mountains. Carol Von Canon braved the cold and took this picture on top of a building at Sugar Mountain.
2. Out of this world
No words for how beautiful this is.
1. The last light...
My favorite part of a sunset is the warm blue that cascades through the air as night mellows in. Jeremy Taylor did an amazing job at capturing this on Christmas Eve at Kure Beach.
This would not be possible without these generous, amazing artist who make their work available for all to view and use. These talented photographers are dedicated to reflecting pride in our state through their photography.
