Sure, waterparks can be great fun if you’re looking to break up the monotony of those lazy summer days, but with waterparks there are also inconveniences. Crowds, scary slides, sketchy bandaids floating in the water. Yeah, sometimes when it comes to throwing a pool party, nature knows how to do it best. Take for example the amazing Sliding Rock in Brevard. If you haven’t felt the adrenaline rush of plummeting you way down, this summer is the perfect time to try it.
This 60 foot, natural waterslide has been providing thrills and fun for all mountain visitors for years and years. On warm summer days, eager crowds line up, watching others plummet down the fall as they anticipate what their first cold dip will be like. There's an equal mix of adrenaline, excitement, and instant 'WOW THAT'S COLD' when hitting the eight foot swimming pool below.
For most, your first slide down is basically a blur. You're situated at the top of the rock, waiting to make your epic journey. Once you begin sliding though, that freezing cold mountain water paired with the speed at which you can propel down turns into a frenzy of fun. The best part is the almost teeth chatter-inducing chill of the water you'll land in. It's that cycle of fun that keeps children saying, "Just one more time," and adults reliving those days...making Sliding Rock a coveted summer destination.
It's important to note that while Sliding Rock is open year-round, there are only lifeguards on duty during daylight hours May-August.
While many might head to the manmade waterparks, you can't beat a trip to the natural waterslide tucked away in the mountains. Fun fact: nearly 1,100 gallons of water flow down the rock per minute. Time to get the bathing suits (and water shoes) and get ready for the slide of a lifetime.
Have you ever been to this bucket list-worthy destination?
