What's more: you can only get there by boat! For a nominal fee, you can take a short ferry ride to get there. Or, for free, you can paddle over on a kayak (experienced yakers only, please).

And then once you get there, the magic begins: sand dollars are everywhere! They're even laying on the sand just under the surface of the shallow waters.

Sand Dollar Island is mainly accessible during low tide. For that reason, the ferry service schedule changes each day, depending on the tide schedule. Also, there are no facilities - and there is NO SHADE - on the island. Prepare accordingly, and bring plenty of water.

If you don't have your own boat to get there, then you're in luck! The Morehead City Ferry has scheduled runs to Sand Dollar Island. The cost is $15 per person, and children under 3 are free. The ferry runs IN SEASON from March 31, 2018 to October 18, 2018.
