When it comes to Christmas, many of our small-town and city markets are simply charming. The role model they follow is the elaborate Christmas markets and ornate displays found throughout European cities. From Paris to Prague, the Europeans celebrate Christmas in extravagant fashion with culture-filled markets brimming with the smells, sights, and sounds of the holidays. If you’re looking to experience a Christmas Market that comes close in comparison, St. Nicholas European Christmas Market in Raleigh is a must.
Modeled around the famous European Christmas Markets, St. Nicholas European Christmas Market is now in its 10th year and a must-visit for anyone in Raleigh or the surrounding Triangle area. The event is a round-up of famous gifts and collectibles from all over the world. You can pick up unique presents from Poland or hand-crafted ornaments from Germany. There are also other collectibles and central-European influences reflecting areas like Ukraine, Slovakia/Czech Republic. If you're more of a Tuscan, there are curated finds from Italy and of course there's a wealth of food vendors and entertainers.
Located in a vast array of tents, each display is sectioned by country, making it easy if you have something in mind you're looking for.
This is an event you'll want to bring your appetite for. Taste a wide selection of food that's like taking a mini-trip to Europe's culinary heart. There's a hot Slavic lunch of piroghi, kielbasa, cabbage rolls, and paprikash. If you're looking for spirits to wash down your meal, there's mulled wine available and Fortnight Brewing will be in attendance.
There's also plenty of live entertainment like carolers and Irish step dancers on Friday. The iconic Little German Band (complete with dancers) will perform on Saturday. While the event takes place both Friday and Saturday, for a true experience go Saturday day to enjoy the hot Slavic lunch and traditional entertainment.
This is the perfect family-friendly event to kick off the Holiday season in worldly fashion! Have you attended before or plan to attend this year?
