A sculptor's dream to life vision went awry at the death of his wife. What is left is this, his half-created vision, Castle Mont Rouge. Although not completed, it is still hauntingly beautiful.
5. Shackleford Banks
Shackleford Banks is your own private island with over one hundred wild horses roaming the shores. These beautiful and majestic creatures are descendants of Spanish Mustangs left by explorers. Surviving on the harsh landscape for hundreds of years and fitting right in - the horses are an incredible sight to witness.
6. Bridal Veil Falls
Sometimes your imagination invents weird things, and that can include drive-up waterfalls. Luckily, North Carolina is home to one, and a gorgeous one at that. Bridal Veil Falls is located off the Blue Ridge Parkway...and you can drive right beneath it. Pretty cool.

Between walkways lined with flowers gorgeous blooms and greenery everywhere, Sarah P. Duke Gardens is your own little escape for the day.
8. Cape Hatteras
As the largest guiding light in North Carolina, Cape Hatteras is majestic in the day, but especially at night.
9. Land Of Oz
Talk about imagination, Land of Oz is both magical and decayed. Luckily, the yellow brick road opens again this
and in the fall. If there's one word to describe this place, it's whimsical.
10. Whiteside Mountain
Every early spring and fall, a mysterious shadow takes form on Whiteside Mountain. As the sun shines on the trees throughout the day, eventually the shadow resembles a bear on the side of the mountain. You can experience this for yourself with a quick hike.
