When one thinks of day trips or even road trips in North Carolina, the first thing to come to mind is the beach or the mountains. While North Carolina is home to plenty of awesome adventures, there might be some you’re overlooking. Here are 10 ideas you might not have thought about doing, but should definitely add to your day trip to-do list!
1. Visit a botanical garden.
Botanical gardens are hiding throughout the state, pictured above is Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. North Carolina actually has an impressive list of botanical gardens and arboretums for any part of the state,
2. Go skydiving, minus the plane and heights!
The Appalachian Amusement Center provides you with all the thrills and rush of adrenaline the same as skydiving. Take the kids for a day they will never forget!
3. Or actually go skydiving!

4. Watch a dramatic reenactment of The Lost Colony.
In Manteo, this play recreating the drama of the real lost colony has been called "an exceptional outdoor drama."
5. Go to the ballet.
Up your class and culture at the ballet. You can catch shows through Charlotte Ballet who are always putting on amazing, unique, and show-stopping performances.
6. Spend a day at the farmers market.
Farmers markets are found throughout the state. Find one in your area, spend the day browsing and buying the freshest local foods, and prepare an awesome meal for supper.
7. Or just go pick your own!
Fall is perfect for apple picking, while the spring and summer are great for all sorts of berries. Many farms are open for 'pickings' and this is a unique experience the whole family can enjoy.
8. Visit a winery.
Visit award-winning vineyards in NC's very own wine country found in Yadkin Valley, Swan Creek and Haw River Valley.
9. Play some golf.
In the heart of the sandhills you'll find Pinehurst. Pinehurst is the site of more golf championships than anywhere else in the country. You're sure to enjoy a great day here.
10. Visit the potteries.
The official 'NC Pottery Trail' runs through Seagrove and to Jugtown. This area contains more potters per capita than anywhere else in the south. You can watch the artists in action, browse some museums, and buy some amazing pottery.
