The mountains, coast, and everything in-between is packed to the brim with places just waiting to be explored and experienced. If you’re not sure where to start, it doesn’t get much better than these 15 once-in-a-lifetime adventures.
1. Hike your way to the top and enjoy the view from the highest peak east of the Mississippi, Mount Mitchell.
2. Feel like royalty at America's Castle, the Biltmore Estate.
3. Take a cool dip RIGHT beside a gorgeous waterfall.
Or jump right into the water FROM the top of the waterfall (of course, still use caution and general common sense).
4. Simply visit OR hang glide off the tallest active sand dune on the East Coast, Jockey's Ridge.
5. Drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway in fall.
Don't forget to stop along the way at overlooks, take pictures, visit waterfalls and even hike!
6. Walk through the clouds and across the Mile High Swinging Bridge atop Grandfather Mountain.
7. Take a haunting road trip through eerie and interesting ghost towns.
8. Catch some serious waves off the coast of Cape Hatteras.
9. And while in the Outer Banks, walk along the beach next to wild horses.
10. In the winter, hit the slopes at one of North Carolina's many amazing ski resorts.
11. Witness the mysterious, mesmerizing and ghostly Brown Mountain lights with your own two eyes.
