The Most Criminally Overlooked City In New York And Why You Need To Visit
Despite what others may tell you, the Big Apple isn’t New York’s only amazing city that’s worth visiting. Most out-of-town visitors make their way to the Capital Region to check out all there is to be see in Albany. But what about the cities in the surrounding area that you might be less familiar with? Just a quick drive from our state’s capital, the city of Troy is one you won’t want to overlook.
Sitting right on the Hudson River, the city of Troy is one that many consider to be one of New York's greatest urban treasures.
The city is made up of rolling hills that will give you never-ending views of the Capital Region and beyond.
There are plenty of corners of Troy that have their own attractions to offer, but downtown along River Street is where you'll want to visit.
If you live in the area then you'll know that in recent years the city has seen an amazing bump in unique small businesses.
No matter what season it may be, there's nothing like taking in the historical views and beautiful buildings that you'll see while you walk along these city streets.
Troy is equipped with Brown's Brewing Company. A place where you'll not only find delicious independently brewed beer but also out-of-this-world food!
Sure it's nice to find a local pub where you can not only grab a drink but also some good tasting food. But at Brown's? It's a different story. Some of us (myself included) are guilty of visiting here
for the food! It's that good. From the popular Brown's Beer Pretzel that you'll see on almost every table in the joint to loaded nachos that look like a small colorful mountain of tasty goodness, the menu is one that will leave you feeling indecisive.

One of our favorite times to visit Troy is on a weekend morning, where places like Psychedelicatessen will give you the perfect start to your day.
many amazing places to grab breakfast and/or coffee in Troy. One of our personal favorites is Psychedelicatessen, but you also shouldn't forget about other spots like
The Whistling Kettle
that are all within close proximity to each other!
Last year we featured Psychedelicatessen on our list of
best coffee shops
in New York. But if you're unfamiliar with why people enjoy this place so much, let us fill you in! Aside from the shops funky and relaxing decor, they're also known for having fantastic coffee and fresh bagels that you'll want to have every morning.
With so many great choices, it can often feel like a struggle to pick just one place to eat when you're out in Troy. But there's one location that gives you the best of quite a few worlds.
Located right on Congress Street with a golden fire hydrant to mark the spot, the Troy Kitchen is the most amazing food court you'll ever step foot inside. A new addition to the city, Troy Kitchen features the perfect variety of food options, with Mexican and Korean vendors to other shops that will please your sweet tooth. Another reason why this food court is special? Once you come inside the location you'l realize that this place is like a cozy nightclub of sorts, often featuring live performances for visitors to enjoy. We highly encourage a trip here!

Preserving its history while keeping up with the times, Troy has been able to find the perfect balance of new and old.
Drive up the steep hills of Troy and you'll see modern buildings that will catch your eye like Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's EMPAC campus. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum you'll also be able to see historical places like St. Paul's Episcopal Church that's dripping in architecture that will drop your jaw and Tiffany chandeliers that light up the space magnificently.
