New Mexico is a haven for anyone who loves baked goods. From Golden Crown Panaderia in Albuquerque to Diane’s in Silver City and Clafoutis in Santa Fe, the Land of Enchantment is filled with delicious dessert options. But perhaps the best little bakeshop in our state – and possibly the whole country – is hiding in Ruidoso.
Cornerstone Bakery Café creates mouthwatering goodies that are "baked with an altitude." You’ve gotta love a place that dishes up both humor and sticky pecan buns.
The scent of freshly baked bread lures you inside this eatery, where you’ll find loaves of everything from marble rye bread to green chile cheddar bread. The café portion of Cornerstone Bakery Café serves breakfast and lunch.
Try the bread in one of the restaurant’s sandwiches, such as the Roswell Ruben or the Carlsbad Dip.
While your kids are waiting for their food, they can get creative with bread dough – a rolling pin is even more fun than crayons!
Of course, you could cut to the chase and make a meal out of dessert. Just look at that pastry case.
You know what’s more affordable than visiting Austria, France, and Latin America or Spain?
Working your way through pastries from those nations.
So that would make your appetizer apple strudel, your entrée a raspberry cream cheese croissant...
…And dessert a fruit-filled empanada – order the apricot.
Cornerstone Bakery Café offers a great selection of cookies to choose from. You’ll demolish the Mexican wedding cookies, pecan sandies, and biscochitos in no time.
If you’re looking to give someone a treat they definitely won’t re-gift, consider ordering a whole pie. All the classics are here, from coconut cream to apple pie.
Cake is available by the slice (and whole) as well.
Admittedly, the bakery is not quite as little as it used to be, since it moved into new digs this year, but the servers are just as friendly as ever.
Cornerstone Bakery Café is located at 359 Sudderth Drive in Ruidoso. Visit the bakery’s website for more information.
