There’s a theme park in New Mexico that has been around for so long that it’s become an Albuquerque institution. Cliff’s Amusement Park first opened in 1959 and it has been thrilling and delighting New Mexicans ever since.
Out-of-towners sometimes come to Cliff’s expecting to find Disneyland in the desert. Those people are missing the point of this park.
Although Cliff’s is the biggest amusement park in the state and new rides continue to be added, it manages to retain a charming, retro vibe and it’s the perfect size to explore in a day.

Out of the 23 rides, the New Mexico Rattler is the best known.
This coaster runs on a wooden track, but has a steel structure. It stands eight stories high and provides great views of the Sandia Mountains… before the ride plunges 75 feet down into a tunnel.
Prefer your roller coasters even more extreme? Then climb aboard the Fire Ball, which sends you around an upside down loop 13 times per minute.
Cliff’s newest ride, the Wind Rider, whisks you 115 feet up in the air and then spins you...
...Until you think you’re flying.
If you prefer tamer rides there are plenty of options, like the Rocky Mountain Rapids, a classic log ride.
Although 48" is the magic height, those on the shorter side have more choices when accompanied by a taller companion (a.k.a. a "responsible person").
Cliff’s also offers a Kiddyland, which is specifically tailored to little ones.
When the weather heats up, you’ll want to cool down at Watermania!
This is one of Cliff’s most popular attractions, but the crowds usually ease by late afternoon. (Your regular park ticket allows you to use the waterpark.)
Cliff’s is a cashless park. You need to load money onto a fun card and use that instead.
If you’re local, a season pass offers an unbeatable deal; there’s even a parent pass so you can accompany kids without paying for rides you won’t use. Even if you’re just going once, definitely check the website for discounts and promos.
This seasonal park is open between April and September. In 2017, opening weekend is April 22nd and 23rd .
Since 1963, Cliff’s has been at its current location – 4800 Osuna Road NE in Albuquerque.
Visit the park’s website to plan your visit and view the calendar and park map.
