New Jersey offers a variety of ferry adventures, many involving a trip around Manhattan – some even stop at the Statue of Liberty. While they’re all amazing, my ideal ferry ride is a little bit different. I travel from one beautiful destination to another, and a beach is most definitely involved. If you’re familiar with the Garden State, you know I’m talking about the Cape May-Lewes Ferry!
Though, that's all up to you. You're more than welcome to take the ferry one-way. For a day full of fun, I'd make it a round trip. Take a trolley tour, search for sea glass, and scope out the spectacular views from the lighthouse before hopping on the ferry.
This massive ferry doesn't only hold people...you can bring your car, boat, bike and smaller RVS! 100 standard size vehicles can fit on board. The trip takes just under 90 minutes each way, crossing the scenic Delaware Bay. If you're lucky, you may have a whale or dolphin escort!

The Zwaanendael Museum is a favorite, focused on Delaware's first European settlement, Zwaanendael. You'll also want to check out the Historical Society, Cape Henlopen State Park, Lightship Overfalls (one of seven lightships in this country still open to the public, reopening on Memorial Day Weekend), and all the great shops and restaurants downtown.
