People from all across the country make a point to take road trips around the West Coast, frequently traveling on the famous highway US 50. Starting in Ocean City, Maryland and bringing you all the way to West Sacramento, California, there’s plenty to see and much to do along what many consider to be the backbone of our country.

If you've grown up in Nevada then you've more than likely heard of our particular stretch of this highway being referred to as "The Loneliest Road In America," but do you know where the slogan comes from?

In July of 1986, Life magazine deemed our 400-mile stretch to be the loneliest road in the country, meant to be taken in a negative manner. Making the best of a bad situation, our state turned sour lemons into hard lemonade by using the slogan as a way to attract tourists.

Now all along US 50 in Nevada you can find official signs reminding you that you're traveling on the loneliest road in our country, like the one pictured above.

One of the best parts about this part of the highway that runs through our state, is that it shows you the various scenic views that you can find in Nevada. Certain areas of the highway are flat and surrounded by nothing but desert, while other stretches bring you through the mountains and will have you seeing green!

Talk to anyone who has driven along our loneliest road and they'll tell you nothing except that everyone should take a trip down this road at least once in their lifetime. There's nothing quite like it.
