This Rare Footage In The 1940s Shows Nebraska Like You’ve Never Seen Before

The 1940s were such an emotionally (and sometimes physically) trying time for Americans. World War II was at the forefront of everyone’s mind and affected their lives profoundly. But on September 2nd, 1945, the mood in the US shifted dramatically from tension to unbridled joy.

Even though this film is silent, the feeling of celebration is evident. It’s really a beautiful look back at what must have been one of the best days in these people’s lives. You can even pick out some North Platte landmarks that are still standing today.

North Platte played an important role in WWII, and you can read all about it here.
