What are the best places for camping in Mississippi?

Camping in Mississippi has got to be one of the best ways to experience the great outdoors. Lucky for us, Mississippi is home to 24 state parks, which boast loads of amenities, including amazing campgrounds. With so many options, choosing where to pitch a tent (or park an RV) can seem like a daunting task -- but we're here to help! Below you'll find some of the best campgrounds in Mississippi:

  • Buccaneer State Park (Waveland). Located in Waveland, Buccaneer State Park is rich in coastal beauty and recreational opportunities. Offering fun year-round, the grounds include a 4.5-acre waterpark, nature trail, playground, and disc golf course. There are also 206 developed campsites and 70 primitive campsites, which overlook the Gulf of Mexico.
  • J.P. Coleman State Park (Iuka). Definitely deserving of being deemed one of the state’s best camping spots, J.P. Coleman State Park has a lot going for it, especially in the way of water-related fun. In addition to access to the Tennessee River, the park boasts a freshwater lake and a 50-foot waterfall. When it comes to staying overnight, you’ve got several options, which include RV and primitive campsites, cabins, cottages, motel rooms, and townhouses.
  • Paul B. Johnson State Park (Hattiesburg). Brimming with undeniable beauty, Paul B. Johnson State Park is filled with forests of loblolly pines, dogwoods, and ancient oaks. A picturesque backdrop isn’t all you’ll find at the park, though. There are also plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, including a lakeside beach, a 5,000-square-foot splash pad, and nature trails. The park’s perks also include 125 RV campsites, 25 primitive campsites, cabins, cottages, and a group camp facility – all of which offer lovely lake views.
