The Hidden Park That Will Make You Feel Like You've Discovered Mississippi's Best Kept Secret

It’s no secret that Mississippi is home to a ton of amazing parks. Between the numerous state parks, national parks, and recreation areas, there are plenty of options when it comes to outdoor fun in Mississippi. Oftentimes, popular parks, like Tishomingo State Park and the Clark Creek Nature Area, get all the attention. And while these parks are amazing and should definitely be visited at least once, the state has so much more to offer. A perfect example is Chautauqua Park in Crystal Springs. Filled with history, natural beauty, and one of the most unique trails in the state, the park is an absolute must-visit. Take a look.
Located in Copiah County, the picturesque town of Crystal Springs is home to just 5,000 residents and a beautiful hidden gem – otherwise known as Chautauqua Park.
The 1,500’ boardwalk zigzags through the tops of trees and crosses a trickling stream, eventually leading hikers to the Chautauqua Spring House, a structure that shelters the spring, which once supplied drinking water to the area.
Aside from informative markers, you’ll find other interesting remnants from the past, including this diesel-powered pump that was originally constructed in 1897.
Get to Chautauqua Park by taking exit 72 on Interstate 55, drive east to Highway 51, then turn right into the park’s entrance, which is about one mile ahead. For more information, click here.
