Overall, we Mississippians are pretty easy going. However, there are some things we can be a bit irrational about. These quirks seem completely normal to us, making them easy to overlook, but they do exist. And if you’re not so sure, read on for 10 things most of us are obsessed with here in the Magnolia State.
Mississippi isn’t exactly known as the healthiest state, which may have something to do with our penchant for fried foods. From catfish and chicken to pickles and tomatoes, there’s practically nothing we won’t batter and fry. And why not? Pretty much everything tastes better that way.
It’s no secret that we Mississippians are extremely picky about our mayo. Most of us swear by a particular brand, which is usually Blue Plate, Duke's, or Hellmann’s. The brand used is such a serious matter that it’s likely ended a few relationships.

Practically the official drink of the state, tea is a big deal in Mississippi. Pretty much every resident has their own particular method for brewing up the perfect batch, which according to them, is sure to be the best they’ve ever tasted.

If you live in small town Mississippi, Friday nights are reserved for high school football. The local game attracts everyone from students to the town’s mayor.
Just like Fridays are for football, Sundays and Wednesdays are for church – but that’s only for worship. A majority of residents spend much more time at their local churches, taking part in everything from volunteer work to social events.

Here in Mississippi, we love BBQ so much that it’s even sold in our gas stations. In fact, that’s probably where you’ll find some of the best in the state! Some people think all BBQ is the same or that buying it from a gas station is odd - but those people don’t know what they're talking about (and they're clearly not from Mississippi).
As the official flower of the state, Magnolias are sure to catch the eye of any Mississippian. To an out-of-towner, they may seem like just another flower, but to us, they scream "home."
For some reason, cotton fields seem to bring out the photographer in all of us. The popular backdrop has been seen in everything from scenic nature shots to senior portraits.

As one of the most important things in a southern kitchen, many Mississippians devote quite a bit of time to their skillet - from getting it seasoned just right to using a particular cleaning method. Some may call it obsessive, but that’s just because they don’t know what they’re talking about.
It’s no secret that we love biscuits here in Mississippi. It’s also no secret that we despise canned biscuits. There’s just no comparison. Fluffy homemade biscuits are on a completely different level than the store bought version. To outsiders, it may appear that we’re being unusually picky, but when you’ve grown up eating fresh biscuits, there’s just no turning back.
