The Small Town In Minnesota You’ve Never Heard Of But Will Fall In Love With
With all the attention given to the Twin Cities, it’s sometimes easy to forget that Minnesota has many small towns that are worth visiting. They may be small, but they have a certain charm that just can’t be found on city streets. With quirky attractions and fun entertainment options, Dawson, Minnesota, is one of the most charming towns in Minnesota. You may not have heard of it before, but one visit and you’ll fall in love.
Dawson is in western Minnesota, located along the west branch of the Lac qui Parle River.
The city may be small - just 1,500 people live there - but it holds some interesting attractions.
Perhaps the quirkiest thing in Dawson is its Gnome Park.
Here, dozens of garden gnomes have taken over a small patch of grassy land. These cute lawn ornaments have become a symbol of Dawson.
Venture a little further into Dawson, and you'll find a well-kept town with lovely, tree-lined streets. The pride Dawson's people take in their town is unmistakeable.
In downtown Dawson, there's plenty to see. Local shops line the classic main drag. You'd do well to explore them for a taste of small-town flavor.
Dawson also boasts the west branch of the Lac qui Parle River.
A picturesque bridge spans the river, making for a lovely photo opportunity - or just a great place for a walk.
One of Dawson's biggest annual events is in honor of the river. Dawson Riverfest holds canoe races down the Lac qui Parle.
There's also a boat parade. As you can see, it features boats both quirky and traditional.
A car show draws many locals out to Riverfest. The classic cars on display beckon as they drive through the quiet streets.
Downtown, an annual parade is the epitome of small town living.
Runners also have a chance to take over the downtown streets for a fun run.
Of course, no trip to Dawson would be complete without meeting a gnome!
