In Minneapolis, right next to the 94/394 interchange, you might find yourself face to face with a massive church. In the Loring Park neighborhood, across from the Walker Art Center, The Basilica of Saint Mary stands resolute against the skyline. Most Twin Cities residents are used to seeing its gargantuan silhouette as they drive by, but many don’t stop to appreciate the amazing detail and history behind it.

Commissioned by Archbishop Ireland and built between 1907-1915, the Basilica was named the first one in America by Pope Pius XI when the interior was near completion in February 1, 1926.
