At first glance, The Antlers restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, looks just like any other bar and grille. Unsuspecting guests might pull into the parking lot expecting to indulge a hearty, delicious meal — and they’d be right. But there’s something special about the The Antlers, and its name is a hint. Give up? Well, vegetarians beware: The Antlers is home to over 300 animal mounts which line the walls of the restaurant’s dining area.

The Antlers has a long and storied past, beginning around 1915 when it was opened under the grisly name "The Bucket Of Blood Saloon." During America’s Prohibition era, it presented itself as an ice cream shop — but rumor has it there was a little more than ice cream being served.
In the 1950s, the restaurant began to build its impressive taxidermy collection with the help of two police officers from Detroit, The Kinneys, who were particularly skilled at bartering.

Its walls now boast hundreds of mounted animals, antlers, and other authentically rustic decor. Each and every taxidermy piece must be carefully cleaned, cared for, and maintained to keep the restaurant’s design in top form.
