Yes, we Michiganders are accustomed to unusual weather, but this year’s storms have been especially ridiculous. While each of us deals with our state’s strange weather habits in unique ways, there are a few thoughts that seem to remain constant among all residents. Here are nine of our favorites.
The first snowfall in springtime can feel like a personal attack. After all, there must be some reason why other parts of the country get to enjoy balmy weather while we’re stuck in an April blizzard. Did we make some sort of mistake that brought this misfortune upon us? WE NEED ANSWERS.
Ah, there’s nothing like waking up in mid-April with the expectation of sunshine, then glancing out the window and doing a double take after seeing what appears to be snow on the ground. There’s no way this is real life - it must be some kind of prank! Alas, the snow is real. Life is pain.

Many of us were quick to shove our winter garb into storage after the first warm day of the season made an appearance several weeks back. April snowfall means that we’ll have to begrudgingly pull our puffy coats out of the closet and bundle up again. Some of us might just continue wearing shorts in the snow as a very strange form of protest.

When snow won’t seem to go away, a warm weather escape sometimes feels like the only plausible option for escaping the misery of a springtime freeze. The next phase in the arrival of April snowfall is bargaining. Perhaps if we allow the snow to happen without complaint, we’ll be rewarded by Mother Nature with a quick break from school or work. There must be someone to blame for this ridiculous display of wintertime in the midst of spring. Is the government in on this? Is there someone we can sue for emotional distress? Trust us, we’ll figure out who allowed snow to make an appearance so late in the year and give them a stern lecture!
When snow seems to have overtaken each and every town in the Great Lakes State, it can be difficult to remember what warm weather feels like. Sunshine is a distant memory, and the feeling of wearing shorts is almost unimaginable. We Michiganders might as well live in a snowglobe year-round.
Do we want to put on our winter boots for an Easter outing? No. Do we want to attend an outdoor wedding in 30-degree temperatures? No. Do we want to head to the beach, only to find that it’s still frozen? No. Do we want to be snowed in during spring break? Nope, nope, and more nope.

Despite the frustration of springtime snow, we take solace in the fact that Michigan weather is unpredictable. The snow could be gone just as quickly as it arrived, and there’s something comforting about the idea that our suffering is only temporary. Now, if the sun could just speed things up a bit…
