When we think of chilling, abandoned places in Michigan, our minds tend to go to Detroit with its seemingly endless miles of vacant properties.

But go the the Upper Peninsula, and you’ll come across entire communities that were once thriving mining towns but are now devoid of people and only have shells of towns remaining. YouTube user “intoweapons” found one such place: some long-abandoned copper mining ruins and a shored dredge just outside of the Houghton-Hancock area.

Have a look.

Quite chilling to think of what this place once was, isn’t it? Tell us, have you come across remnants of old mines in the UP? Did you dare explore them?
