Uh Oh… Here Are The 14 Drunkest Counties In Massachusetts

We here in Massachusetts are good at many things, and making merry is definitely one of them. Between being the birthplace of Samuel Adams beer and our beautiful vineyards, knowing how to enjoy a good drink is practically in our blood. However, there is such thing as too much of a good thing.

To determine which Massachusetts counties have the biggest love for booze, we looked at the latest data from County Health Rankings detailing which counties had the greatest percentage of residents who reported binge or heavy-drinking. To break ties amongst the counties, we used the proportion of alcohol-related deaths to total driving deaths reported by county between 2009 and 2013.

The sample size used in the data is proportionate to the number of residents in each county.

Disclaimer: I’m not a professional demographer and this list is purely informational. Statistics on alcohol consumption and health outcomes are a challenge to collate due to factors such as self-reporting and variations in sample size. If you’re offended by the above ranking, don’t be.
