When locals think of zoos, usually the Maryland Zoo or DC Zoo comes to mind. However, there are a few others in our state that while smaller, are still worthy of a visit. Today we’re featuring a local zoo that not only has exotic creatures, but also offers a safari ride! Check out this unique spot that will make for a memorable day.

Catoctin Wildlife Preserve & Zoo is located in Thurmont, Maryland.

While this spot is lesser known, there's still plenty to see. A glimpse of the park map shows all of the different exhibits.

There are dozens of exotic animals at every turn. The tropical birds and bright and bold...

...and the resident zebras are always friendly.

You'll even spot big cats here, including white tigers.

Love feeding animals? You can do plenty of that at Catoctin Wildlife Zoo & Preserve. Goats, sheep, llamas and more are ready to make your acquaintance.

So what makes this zoo an adventure park as well? The fact that they offer safari rides!

No need to book a trip to Africa. The safari rides here are full of fun and you can get up close to even more curious animals.
