What are some good wildflower hikes in Maryland?
Besides the ever-popular C&O Canal Towpath, there are some wonderful places to hike if you want to enjoy wildflowers in Maryland. Here are a few of our favorite wildflower hikes in Maryland that we think you'll enjoy too:
- King and Queens Seat Loop, Jarrettsville, MD: This trail is the perfect combination of wildflower-lined forest and epic scenic views. Rocks State Park is one of our favorite places for a hike, and the views at the top of this trail allow you to see for miles. You will not be sorry if you can time your hike to reach the summit at sunset.
- Cunningham Falls Trail, Thurmont, MD: This wonderful trail near the Catoctin Mountains is a lovely spring hike when wildflowers are blooming all along the trail. It is always nice to enjoy a big beautiful waterfall at the end of your hike, too. The 5.1-mile loop will take a good two and a half hours typically. Even more depending on how long you spend in awe looking out over the Blue Ridge Summit Vista.
- Anita C. Leight Estuary Center, Abingdon, MD: Otter Point Creek is one of the key features of this beautiful area. The abundance of wildflowers is a second. As early as March you can expect the first blooms to reach out of the cold ground to absorb the sun. Some of our favorite wildflowers to look out for include the dainty white snowdrops and bright azaleas. Keep an eye out for cherry blossoms, too. The spring wildlife in the estuary is just as abundant as the flowers themselves.
