With all of Maine’s gorgeous coastline, stunning forests and amazing people, why would anyone ever want to move away? Sometimes people don’t have a choice – they get relocated with work, go out of state for school or move to take care of family. One thing’s for sure – once they leave Maine, they miss it terribly. Here are a few of the things we’ve heard from Mainers who were crazy enough to leave.

1. "You call THIS fresh lobster?"

Since most of the lobster in the country is caught right here in Maine, you'll be hard-pressed to find a truly fresh lobster anywhere else.

If you were crazy enough to move inland, you're most certainly missing the pounding surf, salty, fresh air and majestic power of the ocean. But even if you live in another coastal state, let's face it - the ocean is the most awe-inspiring here in Maine.

In Maine, we call that a "light snow." The pansies in other parts of the country call that a "state of emergency."

You can't expect people on the West coast to understand the difference between maple syrup and "pancake syrup." Ask one of your friends or family members to ship you some real syrup.
