But, even if you were a top student there are probably a fair few things you didn’t actually absorb while sitting in class. Were the things on this list taught in school? Hard to say. You might already know some of this, but we’re willing to bet you didn’t learn it in a classroom! Read on for some fun facts about Maine.
Not only is this the highest peak on the East Coast, it's also named after the explorer, Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, sieur de Cadillac. The car company is ALSO named after him!
But how cold does it REALLY get? Well, in 2009 the record was set at -50 degrees in Aroostook County.

While it's certainly a Maine company, it's actually named for Burt Schavitz, a photojournalist from New York City. He moved to Maine after believing his career had been made less important by the increasing popularity of television. After becoming a beekeeper he founded the company with Roxanne Quimby in 1984.
While you might meet people who claim to be confident, there's no real conclusive proof of the names's origin. Some say it's shorthand used by sailors to refer to tell the difference between the state and the islands off the coast. Others say it's named after the French province of the same name.
