Mainers are a special breed. Between the accent and some of the attire, those with ties to Maine can usually be picked out from a mile away. But, with so many people from other states finally realizing how wonderful things are in Vacationland, we’ve caught some people hunkering down, throwing on bean boots and saying they’ve been here all along. While we’re happy to have them, we’d prefer they just be themselves. Here are a few ways to spot the impostors!

1. They think lobsters come out of the sea looking red and juicy.

If you want to really shock them, show them a live lobster in all it's multi-colored, black-ish glory.
2. When crossing the Piscataqua River Bridge, they're face stays exactly the same.

Those from Maine know that after a long car trip, crossing this bridge feels like a a breath of fresh air.
3. They open their closet and it doesn't look like this.

Any self-respecting Mainer has a section of their closet devoted to sensible flannels.
4. They show up in May expecting actual spring weather.

Unfortunately, they're going to have to wait until at least late July for some (semi) reliable summer weather. Until then, we'll be the ones in short sleeves in May.
5. When asked for directions, they think you CAN get there from here.

Everyone in Maine knows that if you want to get somewhere there's a good chance you can't actually "get there from here."
6. Or, when they DO give directions it's in miles.

8. They call this a "lobster cage."

9. They expect school (and work) to be cancelled after a snowstorm.
