We’re from Maine and we’ve all seen a moose, that’s true. But, we don’t all spend our weekends hunting them while wearing plaid shirts and Bean boots. Some stereotypes make us laugh and, sometimes, make us proud! Heck yeah I’m not afraid to drive to the grocery store in my ATV! But, there are some that are simply incorrect. Here are a few stereotypes about our state and the people who live here that need to be put to rest once and for all!

1. Portland represents most of Maine.

2. It's always snowy in Maine.

Except when it's sunny and beautiful in the summer. Because we have summer, just like you. In fact, ours is probably more bearable than yours. (We won't mention the black fly thing.)
3. There are more moose than people.

4. We are actually from Canada.

A good portion of Maine is pretty far from Canada, actually. We are 100% located in the USA.
5. We all drive Subarus to work.

7. We wear only plaid and flannel.

8. All we eat are lobster rolls.

No. Sometimes it's summer and the best lobster shacks are closed. Also, sometimes we eat haddock. But, okay, fine - the rest of the time we eat lobster.
9. We all live in the middle of nowhere.

Okay, some of us do. But, many of us live in bustling places that have better food than the big city you call home. And, those of us who DO live in the middle of nowhere probably have a better night view than you.
10. We all wear L.L. Bean Duck Boots.
