These 11 Beachfront Restaurants In Maine Are Out Of This World
If I wrote ten paragraphs in this article, there is still no way I would be able to properly convey how much I love summer in Maine. Hiking, blueberries, lobster rolls! Every weekend is another possibility to soak up my favorite Maine season. Aside from blackflies and mosquitoes, there isn’t much I don’t like about this season. But, my absolute favorite thing is the feeling of having spent the day in the water and then enjoying a perfect summer meal. If you love summer days and that post-beach/lake/river feeling – you’ll want to check out these beachfront restaurants in Maine.
1. Waterman's Beach Lobster, South Thomaston
This small beachfront spot is great for a laid-back and casual meal. Get the lobster roll (even though it's on a hamburger bun) and the blueberry pie while looking out over the (very small) waves. Check them out on
or in person: 343 Waterman Beach Road, South Thomaston / (207) 596-7819.
2. The Lakeshore House Pub, Monson
The last time we included The Lakeshore House in an article, everyone was thrilled we'd included an inland gem. So, how could we leave this lakeside beach restaurant off of this list? In addition to the cozy outside setup, they serve delicious food (we still vote yes on the onion soup) and offer a nice respite from the outdoor activities you might be engaged in throughout the area. Oh! And have all the beer you want - you can sleep in the attached lodge. Check them out on
or in person: 9 Tenney Hill Road, Monson / (207) 997-7069.
3. Morse's Cribstone Grill, Harpswell / Bailey's Island
If you're in Harpswell, you're already probably a happy Mainer. But, if you need a bit of a boost, enjoy a Shipwrecked Margarita outside at Morse's. Or, just go straight for the seafood nachos! Check them out on
or in person: 1945 Harpswell Islands Road, Bailey Island / (207) 833-7775.
4. Emma's Eats, Scarborough
Emma's Eats is another location that will put you as close to the water as you can be. In fact, because it's a takeout restaurant, you can technically sit IN the water eating if you'd like. Try the double cheeseburger if you're craving something to fill you up. Check them out on
or in person: 63 King Street, Scarborough (Pine Point Beach) / (207) 219-8462.
5. Splash, Ogunquit
Splash is the only restaurant located directly on the beach in Ogunquit. They serve every meal - including breakfast - which means you can start and end your day with a meal overlooking the water. Don't expect anything lavish - they're a fun, casual place to have a drink (even if it's your morning coffee) and smell the sea. Check them out on
or in person: 135 Beach Street, Ogunquit / (207) 646-7024.
6. The Brunswick, Old Orchard Beach
Say what you will about The Brunswick, but we love it. With an outside area directly on the beach, along with a pathway leading to a beachy area still considered part of the property, it doesn't get much more "beachfront" that this. Come on a weekend to dance up close to 700 of your closest (new) friends. And, if you drink a little too much, you can always (try to) stay in the hotel above.Check them out on
or in person: 39 W. Grand Ave, OOB / (207) 934-4873.
7. The Goldenrod, York Beach
The Goldenrod has been open for 121 summers and serves up breakfast, lunch, dinner AND dessert. AND candy. It's just about the perfect spot to visit on vacation - when calories don't count. Stop by to watch the taffy being pulled and then get yourself some of your own Goldenrod Kisses. Check them out on
or in person: 2 Railroad Ave, York Beach / (207) 363-2621.
8. Stone's Throw,
Another York Beach gem, Stone's Throw also doubles as an intimate and cozy inn. But, if it's food by the beach you're looking for - look no further. They've got a great brunch menu, along with tasty cocktails and friendly people. The buffalo shrimp is said to be great! Check them out on
or in person: 123 Long Beach Ave, York Beach / (207) 361-3116.
9. Bufflhead's Restaurant at Hills Beach, Biddeford
Word on the street is that the new ownership has only made things better - a hard task given how great this place was before! While the beach isn't exactly for swimming (it's more of a marsh) we think it has the same seaside vibe as many of the ones on the sand. Make sure to try the homemade desserts at the end of your meal. Check them out on
or in person: 122 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford / (207) 284-6000.
10. Spinney's Restaurant, Popham Beach
Of course Spinney's is on the list. Folks seem to be divided over this Maine-stay (see how I did that?) but that's what happens when just about everyone you meet has been there. Try anything on the menu, especially with a side of onion rings. Parking is dicey in the parking lot, but to make up for it they've built a lovely back deck over the beach for this season! Check them out on
or in person: 987 Popham Road, Popham Beach / (207) 389-1122.
11. Surf 6 Oceanfront Grille & Bar, Old Orchard Beach
Just a block from the pier and directly on the beach, Surf 6 is a convenient an casual place to check out the next time you're in OOB. Try the haddock - it's supposed to be among the best! Check them out on
or in person: 2 Cortland Ave, Old Orchard Beach / 207) 934-2058.
