As Thanksgiving rolls around, it’s time to give thanks for all the amazing treasures living in Louisiana affords us. Here are 11 of the things I am most thankful for this year. What are yours?
1. The Architecture
This year, I am more grateful than ever for the beautiful homes and public buildings that are found throughout our state. For generations, Louisiana residents have made it a point to make their homes beautiful, welcoming places for people around the state. Thanks.
2. Louisiana Families
No matter whether you have an actual family to come home to or not, there is an open door somewhere for you to come in from the chilly weather and enjoy a delicious meal.
3. Lake Martin
Perhaps one of the most beautiful lakes in the state, there’s just nothing quite like the sunsets here.
4. Mardi Gras
Coming up just around the corner for one of the earliest dates EVER—I just have to be grateful!
5. Paul Prudhomme
Another Louisiana hero who left the earth this year, Mr. Prudhomme made the Cajun food he loved a national treasure. We’re so grateful for all of your amazing work!
The crown jewel of Louisiana thanksgiving, this amazing dish requires that you fast for two days before and after if you want to survive it.
7. Collards and Ham
I don’t know why, but nothing makes me scream with gratitude more than a good dish of greens. I know there are plenty of other down home favorites on the Thanksgiving table, but this one just always does it for me.
8. Allen Toussaint
One of our Louisiana heroes that recently passed away, Allen Toussaint made us all feel lucky to be alive. Thank you Allen! Your music will bless us forever.
9. Air Boat Rides
Enjoying the swamp from the amazing perspective of an air boat is one of the things I love about living in Louisiana!
10. Dancing in the Rain
Something I absolutely love about living in Louisiana; there’s always the opportunity to go dancing in the rain. ☺
11. Live Oak Trees
Growing up surrounded by these trees has given me strength and comfort when I needed it the most! Thank you, trees, ☺
