This sleepy little town has a rich history dating back hundreds of years to when the town was originally a Choctaw Indian Village. It’s only about an hour drive from New Orleans, and the perfect opportunity to experience the small town life after spending time in the Crescent City.

The Tammany Trace runs through Abita Springs, and it’s perfect for a quick stroll. The Trace spans 31 miles through Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville and Labombe before ending in Slidell. The paved walkways are great for biking, rollerblading, or walking.

The Abita Brewery has been around since 1986, and it’s worth your while to stop in to take a tour. You’ll learn about their brewing process, types of beers, and their history before getting to sample four of their beers. Find them at 166 Barbee Road.
And a trip to Abita Springs isn’t complete until you swing by the Abita Mystery House.
