I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Kentucky is the Bluegrass State, one of the most beautiful places in the entire US. There is not a county among us that is without beauty, nor a city that doesn’t harbor some historical relevance. From our rolling fields, dense forestry and vast lakes, rivers and streams, Kentucky is a special place and firmly holds its ground as an important part of the world.
Here are 13 reasons a world without Kentucky just wouldn’t be the same:
Another great horse racing track in Kentucky designed for the famed English track of the same name, also catering to renowned visitors from around the world.
We are the creators of Kentucky Bourbon… and many people are very fond of it. Our bourbon is special, and nowhere else makes it quite like we do. The image is of Jim Beam’s Distillery, but we have an abundance of manufacturers and flavors available.
There is no replacement for the Kentucky Derby. It's likely one of the biggest events in the world, with a week long celebration catering to visitors from around the world.
This delicious dish now served at a variety of places was once only available at the place of its creation, The Brown Hotel in Louisville. If you have never experienced a Hot Brown, you don’t know what you're missing.
These wonderful sticky squares that are used in almost every office, jail, home, etc. etc. around the world, originated in Cynthiana KY at a 3M Company in 1968. I have used them since school and still find them wonderfully useful.
6. Famous actors, artists, directors and musicians.
Kentucky was the original home to some amazing actors and individuals, Rosemary Clooney, Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Muhammad Ali, Larry Flint (Creator of Hustler Magazine), Judge Roy Bean, Tom Cruise, Foster Brooks, John Carpenter, and more.
This renowned journalist/writer was the creator of Gonzo journalism, and has written amazing works about everything from Hells Angels to books, like "The Rum Diary". Hunter was a truly amazing artist of words that made an impression around the world.
This is one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, and its home is right here in the Bluegrass State. As a matter of fact, it runs under most the state.
The origin of Bluegrass Music is in the Bluegrass State, and personally, I cannot imagine life without it.
Just imagine life without any of these people, places, animals or things. Many movies, books, and songs would have never been created. Slavery may have not been abolished until much later, gold could be scattered everywhere, no KFC or Kentucky Hot Brown. Even worse… no post it notes, Bluegrass Music and only 6 Wonders of the World… What do you think the world would be missing without Kentucky?
