The Big Dipper at 2820 W Parrish Avenue has been a stable part of the Owensboro burger enthusiast diet since the 1940s. Once you try their homemade burger, you will understand why. The “through the garden” burger requires a few extra napkins, but it comes with every topping imaginable piled high on a mouthwatering patty and grilled to perfection.
9. Fillmore’s Dairy Hut, Florence
This restaurant at 7500 Burlington Pike is a local favorite. They make some of the best homemade burgers and hotdogs in the county. The toppings are generous and the meat is always grilled to perfection. It is the perfect mix of a greasy diner and a home cooking restaurant, complete with amazing desserts.
8. The Village Idiot, Lexington
This local favorite at 307 W Short Street has some unique flavor combinations. One of which is the, “Idiot” burger. This fabulous burger is ½ pound of pure Angus beef, a slab of cheddar cheese, a homemade onion ring the size of the burger overflowing in the center with tender pulled pork. The unusual twist of flavors makes it a must try if you are in the neighborhood.
7. Lakers Drive In, Cecilia
This town favorite at 10585 Leitchfield Road has been around for a few decades. It gets a consistent 4 star rating on Trip Advisor and Yelp from travelers as well. They don’t have a lot of pictures of their food available, but they are obviously doing something right since they’ve been serving the Cecilia area for over 5 decades.
6. Culvers, Florence
This old school deli style restaurant is located at 8554 Hwy 42 but it originated in Wisconsin in 1944. It is the dream of the son of a cheesemaker and grandson of a farmer. That life combination taught the Culvers how to create the perfect burger and dessert atmosphere. The double burger is hearty, but not anywhere near as sloppy as one might think.
5. Wallace Station, Versailles
This historic restaurant at 3854 Old Frankfort Pike has been a favorite of the Versailles locals and visitors to the area for over a century. However, it was just a local grocery until the early 2000s. Today the Big Brown Burger and the Krispy Kreme burger are two of the best in the area.
4. Bar Louie, Newport
This popular spot at 1 Levee Way in Suite 3118 serves up some of the best drinks and food around. This is not the average bar food, but instead, offers unique flavor combinations and unusual tastes. He burgers are filled with multiple toppings and alone can be quite filling. The savory fries are a great addition, but the burgers are a must have for the price.
3. Mallard’s, Danville
This home cooking restaurant at 1001 Ben Ali Drive is a little higher end, but well worth the trip. The food here is all fresh to order and has been a local favorite since 2010. The burgers are juicy and cooked to order and the wings are great as well. The fries and onion rings are hearty and filling, making a great side for the burger. Pick your favorite toppings or try something a little different. You won’t be disappointed.

When it comes to a perfect burger, you don’t get much better than Bunz at 969 ½ Baxter Avenue. This is a place that just specializes in the burger and making it multiple ways that people of different pallets will fall in love with. Bunz is a burger enthusiasts paradise with multiple choices, cooked to order and paired with hearty traditional sides.
1. Freakin’ Unbelievable Burgers, Lexington
This burger spot at 395 S Limestone has a well deserved name. The burgers are absolutely mouthwatering, no matter which one you choose. The “build your own” burger is a favorite as you can literally create your own frankenburger with a massive assortment of toppings to choose from. The sweet potato fries make an excellent side for any flavor combination.
